Virtual Appliance not finding the correct MAC

Post by atventer » 23 Jun 2017 06:34

I am trying to register an appliance on an RHEV cluster but the registration (One Time Pin) process is not picking up the MAC address
At the moment the NIC's are provided with VirtIO but I tried it with e1000 and also rtl8139 virtual drivers.

Normal network functionality works as normal, I can ping and access all the functions as expected.

Is there a functionality where I can self register and provide the MAC that is connected to the public interface in order to get it registered and to proceed with my validation of the product.

Hi,

Thank you for your post. In order to help you I need some additional information.

1- For how many users did you install CG?
2- Can you please send us the output of the following commands (from the CLI):

Code: Select all

link
link mac
link bond
3- I also need to know MAC addresses that you see at the RHEV level.

Hi Charles,

Thanks for your quick response. I installed with the default 5 forward user and 3 reverse user limits in order to test the solution for suitability.

below RHEV mac addresses assigned

eth0 - 00:1a:4a:f4:47:2d
eth1 - 00:1a:4a:f4:47:2d

Attached file linkmac.PNG would have the output of the commands you are after.
To me it looks like the algorithm/regular expression you use to determine the mac from might in my case have picked up the "Red" from the "Red Hat"

As explained, I also tried to change the driver to the different options, and rebooted it but it makes no difference. Unless I would have to completely reinstall.

Looking forward to some guidance.

Hi,

Hum.. Yes you are right! Maybe this is specific to oVirt. I'll inform the development team and let you know when the bug fix is available.

In the meantime you can continue to evaluate CG without having to register your appliance (as registering is not mandatory with the free edition (ie. up to 5 users)).

If you have any further questions don't hesitate to contact us.

Hi atventer,

We've identified the issue and fixed it in the upcoming release (EH 1.3.1). However when you replace/remove a NIC after having installed CG, the modification can only be detected if the MAC address of that NIC is also changed. This is the normal behaviour in the real world (MAC addresses are supposed to be unique).

As a workaround you can do the following:
- Turn off CG (from the CLI use the command halt)
- Select Intel e1000 for all NICs and modify at lease one MAC address (as we have an issue with the virtio-net in the NG-1.2.6)
- Turn on CG

Please let us know if this procedure worked for you.

David, Charles,

Thank you. I can confirm that the MAC address is now correct with the e1000 driver after I changed the mac address.
